Professional Cassette Air Conditioner Cleaning in South East Queensland

Cassette air conditioners are ceiling-mounted systems designed to distribute air evenly across a room, making them common in commercial spaces and open-plan environments. Because these systems draw air from above and operate continuously, dust, moisture, and contaminants can accumulate inside the unit over time.

Our technicians provide professional cassette air conditioner cleaning services designed to thoroughly clean internal components, support healthier indoor air quality, and help maintain system performance.

Cassette systems require careful disassembly and specialised cleaning due to their ceiling-mounted design. Our structured cleaning process ensures a deep, effective clean while protecting surrounding areas.

  • Assessment & Safe Disassembly: The system is carefully inspected and key components are removed to allow full access for cleaning.

  • Thorough Internal Cleaning: Internal and external components are deep cleaned to remove dust, dirt, mould, and bacteria using professional-grade products and equipment.

  • Careful Reassembly: All components are reassembled securely, ensuring the system is correctly fitted and ready to ope

  • Final Testing & Performance Check: The system is tested to confirm proper airflow, cooling performance, and clean air delivery.

Why Do Cassette Air Conditioners Need Regular Professional Cleaning?

Keeping your cassette system clean supports indoor air quality, system efficiency, and long-term reliability.

How Do You Know When Your Cassette Unit Needs Cleaning?

If you notice any of the following, it may be time to book professional cassette air conditioner cleaning:

  1. Reduced Airflow

Blocked filters or internal components can restrict airflow and reduce cooling effectiveness.

  2. Unusual Noises

Buzzing, rattling, or abnormal sounds may indicate buildup affecting internal parts.

  3. Unpleasant Odours

Musty smells are often caused by mould or bacteria inside the unit.

  4. Higher Energy Bills

A system working harder than necessary often consumes more energy.

FAQ

Cassette Air Conditioner Cleaning: Your Questions Answered

  • How often should cassette air conditioners be professionally cleaned?

Most cassette air conditioners in South East Queensland benefit from professional cleaning every 6 to 12 months. The cleaning frequency depends primarily on how intensively the unit is used and the environment it operates in.

Commercial cassette units — common in offices, retail spaces, hospitality venues and medical practices — typically run for 8–12 hours a day and should be cleaned every six months to maintain air quality and system efficiency. Residential cassette units used seasonally can often manage with an annual clean.

Queensland's humid climate accelerates the growth of mould inside cassette units, particularly in the drain pan and around the evaporator coil. Because cassette units circulate air from the ceiling level through four-way discharge vents, any contamination inside the unit affects the air quality of the entire room quickly.

If you notice reduced airflow from any of the four discharge vents, unusual smells, or visible dust around the cassette grille, book a service sooner. The 99 People offer same-day appointments across SEQ from $99.
  • Can cassette air conditioners be cleaned safely without damaging ceilings?

Yes — professional cassette AC cleaning is carried out through the unit's existing access points without any ceiling cutting, drilling or structural work. The cassette panel and filter assembly are removed from below, the internal components are accessed and cleaned, and everything is carefully reassembled. Your ceiling tiles, plasterboard and surrounding finishes remain completely undisturbed throughout the service.

The cleaning process involves safely dismantling the internal components — including the filter, evaporator coil, blower wheel and drain pan — cleaning and sanitising each component, and reassembling the unit before running a final performance test. The whole service is carried out while the unit remains mounted in the ceiling.

Technicians take particular care around ceiling tiles in commercial settings, which can be fragile or costly to replace. If you have specific concerns about your ceiling type or finish, mention this when booking and your technician will confirm the approach before starting.
  • How long does a cassette air conditioner cleaning service take?

Most cassette air conditioner cleaning services take approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the size of the system and how long it has been since its last professional clean. Larger commercial cassette units or systems that haven't been cleaned in several years may take longer due to more significant internal buildup.

The service time covers full disassembly of the cassette panel and internal components, high-pressure cleaning of the coil and blower wheel, drain pan cleaning and sanitisation, antibacterial treatment of internal surfaces, careful reassembly, and a final performance test to confirm the unit is operating correctly.

For businesses or commercial spaces that need to minimise downtime, The 99 People can discuss scheduling during off-hours or outside of peak trading times.
  • Will cleaning my cassette air conditioner improve air quality?

Yes — and for cassette systems, the impact on air quality can be particularly significant. Because cassette units are ceiling-mounted and discharge air in four directions simultaneously, any mould, bacteria or dust inside the unit is circulated directly into the breathing zone of everyone in the room with every cycle.

Professional cleaning removes this contamination at the source — from the evaporator coil, filters, blower wheel and drain pan — so the air being circulated after the clean is free of the built-up biological material that causes musty smells and can aggravate allergies and respiratory conditions.

This is especially important in commercial settings such as medical practices, childcare centres, gyms and food businesses, where air quality directly affects staff, clients and compliance requirements. The 99 People's Ultimate Nano cassette service includes AirGuard Nano mould protection, which forms a barrier that inhibits mould regrowth between professional cleans across Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Noosa.
  • Can cassette air conditioners be cleaned without removing the unit?

Yes — cleaning is performed while the cassette unit remains fully installed in the ceiling. The service involves removing the decorative cassette panel and internal components (filters, coil assembly, drain pan and blower wheel) from below the unit, cleaning each component thoroughly, and reinstalling everything before running a performance test.

There is no need to disconnect refrigerant lines, remove the unit from its ceiling mount, or access the roof cavity for a standard cleaning service. This makes cassette cleaning far less disruptive than it might sound — there's no scaffolding, no ceiling access required, and no need to clear large areas of a room.

The unit remains in position throughout the entire service. Your technician will have it fully reassembled and running again within the service window.
