  • Why do I still see pests after treatment?

    Seeing pests in the days immediately after a professional treatment is completely normal — and actually a sign the product is working. When a pest control treatment is applied, it disrupts the pest's nervous system, causing them to come out of hiding and move erratically before dying. This flushing-out behaviour typically peaks within the first 24–72 hours after treatment.

    For cockroaches and ants in particular, it's common to see more activity in the short term as pests move through treated areas. Within 3–7 days, numbers should reduce significantly. If you're still seeing high levels of pest activity after two weeks, contact us.

    During this window, avoid mopping or wiping down treated surfaces, as this removes the residual product that continues to work for weeks after application. The 99 People use professional-grade products that are safe for your family and pets once dry.

  • Do I need to leave the house during treatment?

    In most cases, you don't need to leave your home during a pest control treatment. The products The 99 People use are formulated to be safe for people and pets to remain in the home during application, as long as you're not in the immediate area being treated while the technician is working.

    If you have young children with severe chemical sensitivities, we recommend stepping out for 1–2 hours while the product dries. The same applies if your pet is particularly sensitive or anxious around strangers. Once all treated surfaces are dry — typically within 30–60 minutes — the home is safe for everyone to move through freely.

    Your technician will let you know which rooms are being treated and in what order, so you can plan accordingly. If you have any specific concerns, mention them when you book and we'll tailor the treatment approach to your household.

  • Are pest control products safe for pets and children?

    Yes — the products used by The 99 People are specifically selected for safety around families, children and pets. All treatments are applied by licensed pest management technicians (licence PMT-3006645317) using products that meet Australian regulatory standards.

    The key safety rule is simple: keep pets and children away from treated areas while the product is wet. Once the treatment has dried — usually within 30–60 minutes — the surfaces are safe to touch and use as normal. You don't need to wash or wipe down treated areas; doing so actually reduces the effectiveness of the residual protection.

    For fish tanks, cover them and switch off tank filters during treatment to prevent chemical exposure through the air intake. Birds are more sensitive to airborne particles than other pets, so move them outside or to an untreated room during the service.

  • How should I prepare for pest control?

    A few simple steps before your technician arrives will help ensure the most effective treatment possible. Move furniture away from skirting boards and walls — particularly in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry — so the technician can treat the full perimeter of each room without obstruction.

    Clear out under-sink cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom, as these are high-activity zones for cockroaches and need direct treatment. If you have pet food and water bowls on the floor, move them before the technician arrives and return them once the treatment is dry.

    Cover or remove any exposed food from benchtops. You don't need to bag up cutlery or crockery inside closed cupboards — those will not be treated. Fish tank filters should be switched off and tanks covered as a precaution.

  • How often should pest control be done?

    Rental properties have specific requirements under Queensland tenancy law: landlords are responsible for ensuring properties are pest-free at the start of each tenancy, and many property managers schedule annual treatments as standard.
