  • What types of ants do you treat?

    We treat all common ant species found across South East Queensland, including Argentine ants, black house ants, fire ants, carpenter ants, coastal brown ants, and odorous house ants.

    Each species behaves differently and requires a different treatment approach. Argentine ants, for example, form massive interconnected super-colonies that spread rapidly and are notoriously resistant to surface sprays — they require slow-acting baits that worker ants carry back to the colony. Fire ants, a declared invasive pest in Queensland, are treated using specific approved methods in line with the Queensland Government's fire ant eradication program.

    Carpenter ants nest in timber and can cause structural damage if left untreated. Our technicians identify the species before treatment to ensure the most effective product and method is selected.

  • Is ant treatment safe for pets and children?

    Yes. Our ant treatments use low-toxicity products applied in targeted locations — entry points, trails, nest sites and harbourage zones — rather than broad surface spraying throughout the home.

    Bait-based treatments, which are often used for ant colonies, are placed in tamper-resistant stations where children and pets cannot access them.

  • How long does ant treatment take to work?

    The timeline depends on the treatment type and species. Surface spray treatments targeted at entry points and trails typically show results within 24–48 hours for the ants directly exposed.

    Bait-based treatments — the most effective option for large or established colonies — work more slowly by design. Worker ants carry the bait back to the nest and share it with the queen and other colony members. This process takes 1–3 weeks, but it eliminates the colony at the source rather than just the foragers you can see. Seeing increased ant activity in the first few days after baiting is normal and means the bait is being collected.

    For the best results, avoid using household surface sprays near bait stations after treatment — this can deter worker ants from collecting the bait. Our technician will explain what to do and what to avoid after service.

  • Can ants come back after treatment?

    Ants can re-enter a property from the garden, neighbouring properties, or through cracks in foundations, particularly during Queensland's wet season when flooding pushes colonies to move to higher ground. Re-infestation is more likely in properties with accessible food sources, moisture, or entry points along the building perimeter.

    To support long-term protection: seal gaps around doors and windows, store food in airtight containers, clean up spills promptly, and reduce moisture sources in kitchens and bathrooms. Annual treatments are the most reliable way to maintain ant-free conditions in Queensland's climate.

  • How often should I get ant pest control treatments?

    Annual ant treatments are standard for most SEQ households, providing ongoing protection that covers the high-risk wet season months from November through March when ant activity peaks.

    Properties with a history of recurring ant issues, particularly those with gardens backing onto bushland or established lawns, may benefit from a six-monthly maintenance schedule. Ground-floor apartments and older homes with unsealed perimeters are also in higher-risk categories.
